Focal mechanisms of 2023 Turkey-Syria aftershocks tell us about local stresses
Each of these "beachballs" represents an earthquake. The pattern tells us about what kind of slip happened. Most are strike-slip, like the two mainshocks on Feb. 6, but there are quite a lot of normal events (extension) as well.
