Fault creep in the western Sea of Marmara releases some tectonic strain, but Istanbul still at risk
Very interesting paper about fault behavior in the Sea of Marmara: The western part of the fault is creeping ~11 mm/yr, releasing ~half of the strain.
Unfortunately, the eastern part, near Istanbul, seems to be fully locked.
